Key Points

Important reminders about using these data:

  1. If you publish using these data, you must include the following acknowledgments language in your manuscript:

"This manuscript was prepared using data from Datasets [insert Dataset ID numbers for the specific datasets you used] from the NCTN Data Archive of the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI’s) National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN). Data were originally collected from clinical trial NCT number [insert NCT number(s)] [insert trial title(s)]. All analyses and conclusions in this manuscript are the sole responsibility of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the opinions or views of the clinical trial investigators, the NCTN, or the NCI."

  2. If you publish using these data, you must send the PubMed ID of the manuscript to NCI at NCINCTNDataArchive [at] within 60 days of publication.

  3. The Data Use Agreement (DUA) expires three (3) years from the effective date of the DUA. When the DUA expires, you need to destroy all copies of the data, and all derivatives that contain individual-level information. To extend the 3-year term, you must submit a new Data Request Form and DUA.

  4. If a trial from which you used data was conducted under a CTEP or Network Group collaborative agreement, you must abide by and provide the licensing rights described in the most current IP option policy posted at the following link:

You can determine if a trial has a collaborative agreement by viewing the table of trials in your request page on the secure website.

  5. Before a manuscript is submitted for publication, NCI and Collaborator will have thirty (30) days to review the proposed manuscript to determine if there is patentable subject matter subject to the IP Option and provide informational comments. Recipient agrees to email a copy of each manuscript arising from the RECIPIENT’s use of the DATA to NCICTEPpubs [at], so that NCI may send them to the NCI Collaborator for a thirty (30) day comments period for prior to RECIPIENT’s submission for publication.

  6. The above terms, among others, are also included in the Data Use Agreement.
